Academic Senate
In accordance with California State Education Code and Title V of the California Code of Regulations, the purpose of the Reedley College Academic Senate is to act as the faculty’s representative to the administration and to the governing board with regard to academic and professional matters. The Senate will communicate the faculty’s advice and counsel on these to the governing board and to the administration, and will work collegially with them to promote the academic quality of the institution.
Title 5 §53200 (b): Academic Senate means an organization whose primary function is to make recommendations with respect to academic and professional matters. Section 53200 (c) “Academic and professional matter” means the following policy development and implementation matters:
- Curriculum including establishing prerequisites and placing courses within disciplines
- Degree and certificate requirements
- Grading policies
- Educational program development
- Standards or policies regarding student preparation and success
- District and college governance structures, as related to faculty roles
- Faculty roles and involvement in accreditation processes, including self-study and annual reports
- Policies for faculty professional development activities
- Processes for program review
- Processes for institutional planning and budget development
- Other academic and professional matters as mutually agreed upon between the governing board and the academic senate
Reedley College Academic Senate meets 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month, 1:00 p.m. – 3: 00 p.m. during the academic year.
