How to create an FSA ID

• An FSA ID is comprised of a username and password and can be used to login to certain Federal Student Aid websites. For example:
  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid
  • The National Student Loan Data System
  • StudentLoans.gov
  • TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve (ATS),
  • My Federal Student Aid
• The security of your FSA ID is important. Your FSA ID can be used to: electronically sign Federal Student Aid documents, access your personal records, and make binding legal obligations.
• If you are a parent and need to electronically sign your child’s FAFSA, you need your own FSA ID. If you have more than one child attending college, you can use the same FSA ID to sign their applications.

1. When logging in to one of the websites listed above, click the link to create a FSA ID.
2. Create a username and password, and enter your e-mail address.
3. Enter your name, date of birth, Social Security number, contact information, and challenge questions & answers(see below).
4. If you have a Federal Student Aid PIN, you will be able to enter it and link it to your FSA ID. You can still create an FSA ID if you have forgotten or do not have a PIN.
5. Review your information, and read and accept the terms and conditions.
6. Confirm your e-mail address using the secure code, which will be sent to the e-mail address you entered when you created your FSA ID. Once you verify your e-mail address, you can use it instead of your username to log in to the websites.
7. Once the Social Security Administration verifies your information in one to three days you will be able to use your FSA ID to access the websites listed above. For help visit StudentAid.gov/fsaid

Challenge Questions

Providing challenge questions and answers adds an extra level of security to your FSA ID. You can
use your challenge questions to get your username or password if you forget them.

• What was the name of your elementary school?
• What is the nickname of your youngest sibling?
• What city were you born in?
• Who was your first boss?
• What was the name of your first pet?
• What was your high school’s mascot?
• What is the name of the hospital you were born in?
• What color was your first car?
• What is your mother’s maiden name?
• What is the first name of the person you first kissed?
• What is the last name of your favorite teacher?
• What is the last name of the teacher who gave you your first failing grade?
• What is the name of the place your wedding reception was held?
• In what city or town does your nearest sibling live?
