Financial aid disbursements are based on your EFC (Expected Family Contribution) and the number of units for which you enroll. Generally, you must be enrolled in six or more units to receive grant assistance. For example, some students with limited Pell Grant eligibility must be enrolled full-time to receive their award. Other students may be eligible for Pell Grants based on less than half-time enrollment(.5 - 5.5 units).
If you were awarded a Pell or Cal Grant, recalculation will occur if you are enrolled in less than twelve
units. THIS IS ONLY AN EXAMPLE:
Recalculation Table |
Full time (12+ units) |
Quarter time (9 – 11.5 units) |
Half time (6 – 8.5 units) |
Less than half time (.5 – 5.5 units) |
Percent of eligibility |
100% | 75% | 50% | Varies |
Pell Grant Available | $2000 | $1500 | $1000 | $200 - $500 |
Cal Grant Available |
$836 | $627 | $418 | Ineligible |
If you do not successfully complete all of your classes or you withdraw from all of your classes before 60% of the semester, you may be expected to repay all or a prorated portion of your financial aid. If you received financial aid and withdraw from some of your classes at any point in the semester, you may be required to repay all or a prorated portion of your financial aid. You will be notified by e-mail of the repayment.
The California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governors Fee Waiver), Pell Grant, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) and Federal Student Loans are all considered if you withdraw from any of your classes.
Carefully plan your class schedule and make sure any classes you take will count toward your degree or certificate. If you decide to withdraw, do so before you receive a “W” and speak to financial aid to see how this will affect your aid. Completing all of your classes with passing grades will keep you out of repayment. Students who receive a combination of unsatisfactory grades (“F”, “NC”, “NP”, “I”, “RD”, and “W”) will be evaluated for repayment and notified by e-mail.
If the amount owed is not repaid the debt will be referred to the U.S. Dept. of Education, and you will not be eligible to receive any additional federal financial aid at any school until the amount due is repaid in full, or satisfactory payment arrangements have been made with the U.S. Dept. of Education.
