It was a very special Easter Sunday for the RC Choir and instructor Kirstina Collins, who made the most of their opportunity of a lifetime – performing in front of a live audience at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The concert, led by Jenny Bent of Sonoma State University, included singers from Sonoma State, Reedley College, and other select California schools. The mass choir and NYC orchestra performed Brahms’ “Schicksalslied” and Gjeilo’s “Dark Night of the Soul.” Sponsored by MidAmerica Productions, this five-day residency in NYC provided our students a world-class experience in culture and music making. “Carnegie Hall is something I have been talking about since I was a little kid,” said RC choir performer Deeandra Mendoza. “So, to actually be there, like, right after we got off stage, I started crying. It was so overwhelming, the fact that it actually happened.” Shayla Girardin of ABC 30 came to campus to preview their trip.
